| Grass skirts, Hawaiian music and exotic island recipes - all are important ingredients for a successful luau party. But to make your luau really stand out from the rest, you must serve up your Polynesian feast in an atmosphere ablaze with fiery tiki torches, reminiscent of those ancient Polynesian ceremonies invoking the blessings of the tiki gods. How do you recreate the atmosphere of those age-old rituals? Start by placing a few large torches around your central gathering area such as an open fire pit or main food table. The mammoth flames will cast a sizzling glow over your roasting pig, pineapple spears and huli huli chicken. Next, encircle a koi pond, fountain or waterfall with a half dozen or so blazing torches to create the illusion of a Polynesian fire dance. The reflection of the fiery ring against the water will magnify its illuminating effects...and create a lasting impression on your guests. For those of you lucky enough to have a tropical garden as part of your backyard landscape, nothing shows it off more than the flickering glow of tiki torches. Scatter them among your favorite orchids and exotic plants.
For the final touch, line a pathway to the festivities with an illuminating trail of garden torches set about a foot apart from one another. Your guests will know they've got an exotic evening ahead of them! |
